Exactly the book I wanted

About 50 years ago, when I was in high school and playing piano a lot, a neighbor gave me this book. I have had it all this time, but it finally began to fall apart and some of the pages were lost. I didn't know you could still get it!

The very old version I had was string-bound and very sturdy -- this new one is just glued and I am afraid to open it without cracking the binding. Also, some of the pages are printed too light.

One plus of this new version is that it is somewhat bigger and easier to see.

This is a classic book of music

Had a version of this for as long as I can remember, the first was string bound a worn. Replaced it some 25 years ago and now that one is worn out. The one I just bought I had rebound with a ring binder, which makes it lay flat while on music stand. There two grips I have with it is the margins are too narrow and it's printed with cheap paper.

I have a brand new baby niece and this book will be on her empowerment shelf for years to come. I will be buying copies as gifts for all of the children in my life. Here's a folktale with a twist: Tompert uses tangrams, a traditional "visual aid" employed by Chinese storytellers, to spin a tale about two shape-changing fox fairies. Seven "tans" (standard-sized pieces of a square) are arranged and rearranged to represent various characters in the story. The fox fairies vie to outdo each other--the first one becomes a rabbit, the other a dog who chases him, and so on--but when the two chase each other right into danger, they finally have to set their competition aside and pull together. Parker's graceful, impressionistic illustrations have a gentle Oriental flavor, and the constantly changing tangram configurations add a novel touch. A traceable tangram is provided at the end for do-it-yourselfers. Ages 3-7.

Kindergarten-Grade 4-- Two competitive fox fairies go through rapid physical transformations until a hunter's arrow reminds them of their true friendship. This original tangram tale is framed by the loving relationship between a grandfather and granddaughter as they share the story under the shade of an old tree, and culminates in a tangram of an old man and a girl likewise resting. Tangrams, ancient Chinese puzzles in which a square is cut into seven traditional pieces (each called a tan), are arranged into patterns used to help tell the story. Parker's watercolor washes complement the text, adding energy and tension, as well as evoking oriental brushwork technique. A great teaching springboard into a hands-on geometry unit!

I use this book annually to introduce tangrams into my geometryunit. The information from the back of the book adds a multiculturaland historical dimension to the lesson while the relationship between grandfather and granddaughter offers an intergenerational link. Reading the book in an interactive mode, I use my own renditions of Grandfather Tang's animals mounted on poster boards and flipped over to be uncovered as the story progresses. The kids are completely engaged trying to guess what the next fairy transformation will be before it's revealed. By the end of the book, they are excited to create their own tangram pictures to form into a class book. The soft watercolor illustrations are a balanced contrast to the energy and enthusiasm Grandfather Tang's Story generates with my class.

This is is an excellent book!I am a teacher and use this book with my 3rd and 4th grade students to teach tangrams and fractions! Children will enjoy the cute story and beautiful pictures!

Excellent for teaching spatial relations!

This book is NOT for babies and pre-schoolers! This creative story shows children how to use a puzzle set of math manipulatives called Tangrams to create pictures. It could be used in ANY grade to improve children's comprehension of spatial relations. A pattern for the tangrams is included in the back of the book to make teaching easier. Any child would love to play with these picture puzzles!

Genuinely a Masterpiece on Project Management and GTD!

Let me start by saying that if I were to choose ONLY two books to get my job done or do a better job as a PM then the two books I'd hold onto would be the PMBOK and Susan's Project Management Coaching Workbook. If PMBOK is the theoretical framework, then Susanne's book is the Real World Application..this is where the rubber hits the road.

I learnt about the book from Cornelius's PM Podcasts, heard the writer discuss the book, did a bit more research and eventually bought the kindle version, its pretty decently priced at around $30.

I started reading and then the lightening struck!, I realized that it's a CLASSIC, this is by far the most well written book I have read not only on the subject of Project Management but also from a Get Things Done perspective as well. The way she explains and assists with the GTD approach is incredible, I wish that this information would be available for all searching for help on GTD.

To me, its written very very well, the structured, logical approach to GTD and PM, the clarity, frankness, directness is amazing. I think the writer not only has excelled from a Subject Matter perspective but where she's truly great is that she manages the reader at psychological/emotional level as well. She's upfront about the issues, embraces the challenges BUT keeps the morale high by putting things into perspective, and continues to move forward with the plan to directly challenge and resolve the issue.

In the podcast, Cornelius suggested a paper copy, I went with the kindle version due to unavailability of the print version and better price of the soft copy. As its a workbook, you are to actively work with it, therefore I'm finding the kindle version to be very useful, as it allows me to copy/paste to my own doc and highlighting etc is very convenient too.

In short, unless you are a Super PM already, get the book, its like having a Super PM by your side 24/7 to help you become a Good Solid PM yourself.
Also the writer has an active website and can also be followed on Twitter for those who are really serious about the topic.

A True Masterpiece - for coaching yourself in Project Management!

“The Project Management Coaching Workbook – Six Steps to Unleashing Your Potential” is a true masterpiece. Any new PM should be able to use this to coach themselves by following the steps Susanne has laid out here. It is very rare that a book can inspire so much and lead someone to become an excellent PM. It is almost as if Susanne is in the book and coaching in person. Also as a true coach, she encourages the reader to take ownership, identify the gaps and address it themselves. Her frankness and practical approach is truly amazing. I recommend this book to any one in PM Community (new or even experienced) who want to be successful as a Project Manager!

Outstanding practical advice for Project Management

I picked up this book when I was studying for a formal PM industry qualification recently, and read it in parallel. It proved an excellent counterpoint, as the style is lively and invigorating. Even though I have some years experience in projects, it's full of very good hints and tips that I had not encountered before. But most of all, it is strangely up-lifting: although she covers the many important functional aspects, the author has focused on what it is to be a project manager, the stresses & anxieties and the personal challenges we all face. Her message is loud and clear: believe in yourself, persevere and you will succeed. Excellent and highly recommended.

Wonderful content - horrible physical quality.

I would like to begin by saying that I am using this book for a summer study with a professor. I am loving the content and the chance to study the material further. The vocabulary is very helpful, and though we are not using the supplementary questions I am sure they are very useful for others. I have no complaint about the content.

I have a huge issue with the quality of this books construction, however. I have been using this book for a once per week meeting over the past month and a half. And I have not been rough with the book, having seen at once the poor binding used. The book costs enough that one expects a higher standard than simple hot press binding. The pages are individual sheets held in place with a stripe of glue down the binding and a cover clapped on top. It's just shoddy and there's no two ways about it. The copy I received has already begun to shed pages and I will now have to spend even more to have a print shop fix it - if they can.

This book is 5 start content in a 1 star package.
