A very good history

A very good book, a straightforward historical account of this most famous train, written in a clear prose and well researched. In structuring his chapter heading author Cookridge encapsulates the 'life and times' of this fabulous train, leading us through the original concept, a biography of its creator, the "maiden voyage" in 1893 and the glorious adventures, misadventures of both the train and some of the notorious, celebrated passengers to the sad demise and final auctioning-off of its remains in Monte Carlo in 1977.
Whilst the author explores the invented outlines, plots and sub-plots of the famous fictional accounts - James Bond, Agatha Christie and Hollywood - these pale in comparison to the true-life adventures of robbery, banditti, kidnapping, near-starvation and frost-bite in the "ice-age" winter of 1929 and derailments into snow and German station restaurants. Wonderfully illustrated with over 50 period photographs and impressions, this work brings the entire, wonderful story sharply into focus, causing his many of his readers to probably regret the loss of this marvelous service and life-style.
One amusing misstep by Cookridge brought forth a rueful grin - in just the second paragraph of his opening chapter the author expresses his intent to "to record for a more mundane generation" the glamour and drama of this famous train. Well, after all, in comparison to those travelling generations, perhaps our modern world is a little more mundane and without the original Orient Express around it is certainly less glamorous.

Highly entertaining book about the history of the Orient Express! An iconic train that is largely forgotten by most, with the exception of Agatha Christie fans, reading this book brings the railway to life! Chock full of ancedotes and history tidbits, including stories about its famous passengers, this book is a must have for anyone interested in the history of the Orient Express.

I read this for research for a novel I'm writing set on the Orient Express. This was a great brief history of the beginnings of the line as well as a history of the highlights over the years. I learned a lot of details that will help flesh out my novel.

Science-based evaluation of reproductive technology from a Christian, Pro-life Perspective

I bought this book upon hearing about Dr. Best, a speaker at the Together for the Gospel conference. I immediately researched her and became interested in the bioethical material she had written. Out of pure curiosity, I ordered this book. I was surprised at the volume of this book and the depth and wealth of knowledge Best has to offer in her text. At first glance, the book feels a little overwhelming, almost like a medical textbook or something I'd encounter in my PhD studies. But, once you sift through the material, you note that the book is not as threatening as it seems. Yes, at times Dr. Best becomes a little long-winded with historical accounts of different reproductive technology events (such as the birth control pill, IVF), but she does so only to offer you a perspective on the issue throughout the years. When you get down to the meat of the book, her discussion of the ethics involved in various different forms of reproductive technology, Dr. Best is far more technical and to the point. She answers questions completely with evidence-based practice and existing scientific knowledge on the topic, from a medical professional's point of view, yet does so in an easy to understand manner. Dr. Best is also compassionate and able to empathize with those she disagrees with, particularly on the topic of abortion. Instead of judging, Dr. Best offers a compassionate view of someone in a tough spot, rather than rehashing the old pro-life rhetoric. Despite this, Dr. Best stays true to her convictions of life beginning at conception and each individual being created in the image of God. This book may disappoint those who may have a dislike of human biology, yet if you want answers to your questions on reproductive technology from a Christian perspective this is the book for you!

Remarkable Book!

The author (Best) is a medical doctor and bioethicist. It is apparent she fully understands issues regarding conception, birth, abortion, miscarriage, pregnancy, and reproductive technologies from a medical and an ethical viewpoint. In today's world, technology and choice are loudly promoted over truth and compassion. In today's society it is difficult to find moral consensus because we no longer have a common process for working out right from wrong. So people attempt to make the best decisions they can with the information they have at the time, yet it is difficult to get accurate information on some of these topics. In a very thorough but sensitive way this book lays out the facts. The author writes from the perspective of believing that human life begins at fertilization and deserves protection from that time. Some may disagree with her, but she gives her reasons for this view. This is not a political book. The book is informative and instructive for those who wish to think clearly and honestly are seeking guidance. The author realizes these matters involve personal decisions and leaves those decisions up to the reader. It is a truly remarkable book and outstanding resource worth reading.

The following chapters explore selected ecosystem components; the benthic communities, life beneath the fast ice and ice shelves, recent advances in understanding decomposition processes, and the role of bacteria and protozoa.

The author synthesizes ecosystem dynamics, with an emphasis on the pelagic ecosystem. He covers resource exploitation, the impact of such exploitation on the marine ecosystem, and the problems involved in the management of the living resources. His epilogue summarizes the extent to which our understanding of the functioning of the Antarctic marine ecosystem has changed in the last 50 years; for example, there has been a dramatic change in our view of krill and its role in the Southern Ocean marine ecosystem. The book concludes with the statement that research carried out under the AGCS Programme and the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR) will continue to provide critical information on the functioning of Antarctic marine ecosystems.

This Is Not The One To Miss......

Carrie seems to be completely all over the place considering that when she went to view Ben's property for his club that they ending up sleeping together, she wasn't used to this at all considering that she was now newly single. Also the fact that she had agreed to be Ben's fake girlfriend just to show his dad that he can be responsible she honestly has no idea what she has let herself in for. Even though she knows deep down inside that she shouldn't have slept with him she honestly can't help the fact that she liked it way more than she was expecting to, plus she can't seem to get their whole encounter out of her mind.

​Ben's connection with his dad Will is starting to get a lot better and even though they have their banter Ben is quite happy with how everything is turning out even though he still refuses to speak to his mother. When Will mentions that he should speak to his mother has been hounding his inbox constantly just because Ben refuses to speak her, he is not exactly happy because he thought by now she would have taken the hint but obviously not.
​Will is pretty impressed by the fact that Ben has a girlfriend and when he casually brings it up Ben honestly couldn't be more proud of Carrie and he is shocked that his dad approves of her.

​Carrie is shocked when Ella asks to meet up with her as she wants her help to plan her wedding even though it's in two weeks but as they are talking ideas and all Carrie gets the biggest shock when Ella asks her if she wouldn't mind being a bridesmaid for her considering one of her friends can't be there to do it. After a bit of persuasion Carrie agrees to it and is happy for a chance to learn a bit more about Ben so when Ella accidently mentions that he's been through what she has considering when he was over in England he had a girlfriend that cheated on him and the fact that she is the first girl that Ben has taken seriously since then is a massive step for him. Carrie can hardly believe what's being told but she keeps it at her heart.

​Carrie seems to be getting into doing all the designing for Ben's club and she is loving all the ideas that she is coming up with for it, so when Ben does decide to surprise her at work she is even more happy even though she is struggling to keep everything professional. So when Ben takes her to get her fitted for her bridesmaids dress she can't keep the tears back as she was really looking forward to when she was going to get married herself but now that she isn't it's all a bit much for her. Ben seems to notice the discomfort in her eyes and this is where they both seem to connect more than they realise, it means a lot to Carrie as they both share such an intimate moment.

​It's the day of Will's and Ella's wedding and even though Carrie is part of the wedding now as being a bridesmaid, will both Ben and Carrie be able to pull off their fake relationship or will they get more than they bargained for. Also how will Carrie react when she meets Ben's mother, will it be a memorable moment or one that everyone wishes they could forget.

​Trust me when I say that every time I read a book in this series, it's amazing. The story is so deep and meaningful, you really should give it a try as you will be glad that you did. Those of you that are Hazel Kelly fans, you already know how good her books are so if you haven't read this series yet you are seriously missing out.

Very light hearted and not too dramatic

These two characters Ben and Carrie are very good together. They seem to know what each other wants, only Ben tests the waters.
This book is more interesting as the books go on. I love they play back and forth.
Oh and the love scene in the hotel was sweet and funny after they finally made it to the bed.
MS. Kelly sure writes with feeling in her books and I really feel each character as I meet them. I keep wondering when the shoe will fall and Ben or Carrie was dreaming because something is going to change where their true feelings come out.
I can't wait to read book 4
I recommend this book series It is not so dramatic as some romance books and leaves me smiling when I ended it

Major cliffhanger but the most exciting book so far.....lots of suprises.

I received this as an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Definitely a shocker!!!! Out of the 3 so far in this series this was probably my favorite. To say a major cliffhanger is an understatement. The end of this book will leave with only two feelings: firstly omg omg omg omg you have got to be kidding me and secondly is the second book out yet?
HK definitely will leave you hanging with this book but what a phenomenal way to keep the story going.
I love how Carrie and Ben are getting closer and really enjoying themselves although it's technically a "fake" relationship. Ben and Carrie both have really strong feelings for the other and why they don't just go ahead a lay all their cards out is beyond me.
I really dislike Ben's mom: firstly because of her cheating on her husband to begin with because a cheater is pathetic and someone I can't stand. To know someone cheated on someone makes me sick too like Ben....I have been there myself and secondly to know she would do that to someone supposedly happy is even more sickening it don't matter what Simon was thinking she should have stood her ground and said He must break up with her first before I pursue a relationship with You once she found out. Carrie needs to realize Ben had nothing to do with it or at least let him tell her that. I could understand it being difficult to be around his mother but she could just avoid them like the plague just as Ben is doing by pretty much wanting to disown her and never speak to her again. I loved the theme of the wedding of Will and Ella. Love the whole winter wonderland theme....really sweet and romantic. I am excited for book 4 to be released to see how Ben handles his mom and Simon and what happens next.
